Two Realities

They say the mark of an adult
Is the ability
To hold two realities at once
Black and white
Left and right
And realize
That both can be true
That one does not negate the other

I realize now
I can safely open
My heart and mind

For doing so
Will no longer
Inevitably
Result in more pain

You loved me
you hurt me

You cared for me
you abandoned me

You treasured me
You rejected me

You took pride in me
You demonized me

You were kind
You were self-absorbed

You were wise
You were shallow

You were empathetic
You were egocentric

I miss you
I’m glad you are gone

I wish you were still here
I am relieved you can no longer hurt me

I hate how you’ve messed me up
I forgive you

The way the poem ends as “I hate how you’ve messed me up
I forgive you” is the most beautiful line of all.

May you find comfort soon dear soul! <3
