Flame In The Night

Smile
It’s Chanukah
As she turned to clean the stove
Trying to connect
She felt a burning to do
To be
Outside of the conventional norm
Of another
With a wig
With a costume
She chose a while ago
When she didn’t have the courage to do the unthinkable
As she did on the 6th night
She walked over to the menorah
Said the bracha
By herself
In a sing song voice
Then she lit the menorah
Her family sat around her
Half awed

While she sang niggunim to herself

As she looked to the flames
She was awakened
And it felt damn good
