Finding Her Voice

When he bared her body
She thought the world saw her nakedness;
When she finally found her voice
She believed that exposing her soul
Could cover her again.
Instead, she felt guilt
For her husband
Not yet know to her
Of the emotional and physical betrayal
Not yet known to him.
She knows
She overcomplicated her search for solace;
Involved those that needn’t be invited.
When she found her voice again
She asked for silent hugs, solemn sympathy
But discovered that, to her dismay,
No one’s consolations could clothe her.
She needed to find her voice again
This time, apologizing to herself
For all the unnecessary apologies she doled out
And accepting that sometimes,
Her silence is her strength.
